Nordic Aquafarms has hired a new executive, Eric Payne, to oversee development of its proposed site for a future land-based salmon aquaculture facility in Humboldt County, California, U.S.A.
The site recently received a visit from the consul general of Norway as the company begins entering the permitting phase of the operation.
The farm, which the company announced just over one year ago, is planned to house a USD 400 million (EUR 370 million) land-based salmon recirculating aquaculture system facility with a potential peak output of around 55 million pounds of fish. The company’s board recently approved plans for the facility in November, and earlier said that the company plans to begin submitting permit applications some time this summer.
Now, the facility has received a visit from some Norwegian delegates, including Jo Sletback, the consul general, according to the Time-Standard.
According to the paper, the group of delegates got a tour of the region, including a local oyster farm and local colleges and universities.
In addition to the visit from delegates, the company also hired a new executive, Eric Payne, who began working earlier this month after the firing of the previous executive hired for the position.
