NSF International acquires certification firm Global Trust

NSF International, a facilitator of global standards development, recently announced the acquisition of Ireland-based seafood certification company Global Trust Certification Limited by NSF Certification Ireland Limited.

Global Trust is accredited to conduct Marine Stewardship Council chain-of-custody assessments and certifications.

Acquiring Global Trust, which conducts certification, auditing, and inspection for a global client base, falls in line with NSF International’s broad growth strategy, according to NSF International President and CEO Kevan Lawlor.

“The acquisition of Global Trust is aligned with our strategy for NSF International and expands our capabilities and expertise in seafood standards and certification programs globally,” Lawlor said. “Global Trust has a talented team with unique expert knowledge, insights and understanding of the seafood and fishery industries, which helps clients understand how they can enhance their current sourcing policies.”

A part of SAI Global since 2012, Global Trust is headquartered in Dundalk, Ireland and has 87 employees and contractors. It operates in 49 countries around the world, and “has national and international certification contracts involving all leading seafood standards and certification programs,” the company said in a press release. The organization will combine with NSF’s seafood business through the acquisition, the terms of which were not disclosed.

Global Trust General Manager Eoghan Stedman said the firm consistently strives to offer far-reaching excellence, something it aims to continue moving forward.

“Global Trust is focused on delivering auditing and certification services for our customers around the world,” Stedman said. “Our success is a direct result of our talented and dedicated employees and we’re excited that this combination will enable us to continue to expand our reach and grow our business.”

An independent, global organization founded in 1944, NSF International tests and certifies products for the food, water, health sciences, and consumer goods industries. The enterprise has operations in 180 countries, and is a Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center on Food Safety, Water Quality, and Indoor Environment.
