A United States supplier is recalling frozen fish cakes in Canada because they may contain egg, milk, shrimp, and octopus – potential allergens that are not included on the label.
Santa Fe Springs, California-based Wismettac Asian Foods, Inc. is recalling its Shirakiku brand Frozen Fish Cakes, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said in a bulletin.
CFIA found that several Shirakiku fish cake products contained undeclared allergens.
“This recall was triggered by CFIA test results. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products,” the agency said. “If other high-risk products are recalled, the CFIA will notify the public through updated Food Recall Warnings.”
The frozen Fish Cakes – including Gobou Maki, Ika Maki, Age Ball, and Satsuma Age – were distributed in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Saskatchewan.
Canada’s Korea Food Trading Ltd. also recalled certain fish cake products due to an undeclared allergen in June.
