Gloucester, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based Gorton’s Seafood is voluntarily recalling some of its frozen Gorton’s Fish Sandwich – 100 Percent Whole Fillets, which were sold through major retainers such as Hannaford and Wegmans.
In a news release, Gorton’s said there is the “isolated and unusual potential presence of large and/or sharp bone fragments,” in 504 packages of the sandwiches.
“Consumption of this recalled product may pose a choking hazard or other physical injury,” Gorton’s said. “While there have been no reports of injury from the product to date, the company is taking this action to ensure the safety and well-being of all of our consumers.”
The company is recalling 504 packages made on a specific date, in a specific time range and sold to select retailers. Supermarkets that received the items include: Hannaford Supermarkets in New York and Vermont; Giant Food Stores ad Giant Martin’s in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland; Wegmans in Maryland and Virginia; Berkley Supermarket; Farm Fresh; Food Depot; Green Valley Marketplace; Harvest Fare; Shoppers Value Foods; St Paul Grocery Market; Tiger Market; and Tri-Star Supermarket.
All retail stores that received the recalled product have been instructed to immediately remove the item from their shelves.
