Chilean company BluGlacier is launching its first-ever direct-to-consumer brand, OSHĒN, starting on 1 November.
OSHĒN will offer “a convenient delivery service bringing premium fresh and frozen Chilean salmon to customers' front doors nationwide in completely biodegradable and recyclable packaging playfully designed with witty banter,” BluGlacier said in a 22 October press release.
The brand provides fresh and frozen Atlantic salmon in a variety of delivery box options to U.S. consumers, including:
- The Entertainer Box, which contains two fresh fillets per box weighing 2.5 pounds each, priced at USD 87 (EUR 73) for Miami, Florida-based customers and USD 125 (EUR 105) for national consumers;
- The One Night Stand Box, which contains four fresh portions per box weighing eight ounces each, priced at USD 45 (EUR 37) for Miami customers and USD 75 (EUR 63) for national buyers; and
- The OSHĒN's Twelve, containing a dozen frozen portions per box weighing six ounces each, priced at USD 75 (EUR 63) for Miami customers and USD 108 (EUR 91) for national buyers.
"With the need for easy, at-home solutions at an all-time high due to the pandemic, we are thrilled to deliver best-in-class salmon offerings straight from Chile to your kitchen," BluGlacier CEO Sebastian Goycoolea said. "In a continued commitment to the environment, we are proud to say that all OSHĒN products will be sustainably raised and mindfully packaged using eco-friendly materials."
According to BluGlacier Chief Marketing Officer Evelyn Torres, the company – which is a one of Chile's largest salmon importers to the U.S. – is looking to reach millennials with OSHĒN.
"We felt there was a gap in the market for quality and fresh salmon that was sold directly to consumers in a fun and engaging way. We are aiming to target millennials who love to cook and will appreciate the eco-friendly elements, various price points, and cheeky branding," Torres said. "Our delivery service will be ideal for those trying to eat consciously on a regular basis, expecting or post-partum mothers, or even as a gift for foodies during holiday time."
All OSHĒN products are ocean-raised in the fresh-water fjords of southern Chile, with the salmon “fed the highest quality diet to ensure the highest concertation of healthy [omega-3 fatty acids],” BluGlacier said. The aquaculture process ensures that both the environment and people of Chile are properly respected, the company added.
“As a brand, OSHĒN will serve as a constant reminder to the consumer that we are part of the ocean and the ocean is a part of us. With transparency being one of the strongest corporate pillars, the goal is to lift the veil of ambiguity around food and have a conversation with the consumer in a fun and educated manner,” the firm said.
BluGlacier has enlisted several celebrity chefs to endorse the OSHĒN launch.
“OSHĒN is collaborating with a number of notable chefs to unveil a series of exclusive recipes on the website for consumers to replicate at home,” BluGlacier said. “Additionally, the brand has partnered with the artisanal and eco-conscious TAJA Candles to offer all customers a 10 percent discount off the Tall Dark + Handsome scent paired perfectly to set the mood while preparing salmon.”
BluGlacier has been distributing its sustainable, farm-raised salmon products via wholesalers such as Krogers, Walmart, and Costco, among others, for the past ten years. The company has earned 4-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) status, as well as certification from the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC), it said.
