CP Foods introduces “CP Pacific” shrimp brand for Thai market

Bangkok, Thailand-based food giant CP Foods has launched a new premium shrimp brand aimed at the domestic market in Thailand, it said in a statement on 6 September.

The new brand, “CP Pacific,” shows CP Foods’ commitments toward sustainable aquaculture, with priorities given to environment protection and optimization of resources, Sujint Thammasart, the chief operating officer of CP Foods’ aquaculture business, said in a press release.

“The global food market is facing fierce competition due to COVID-19 outbreak. Besides the taste of product, consumers are becoming more and more concerned about healthy product, food safety, and the environmental impact from foods that they buy,” Thammasart said.

CP Pacific shrimp is farmed without using antibiotics and is raised in a disease-free environment. The company ensures sure the brand’s shrimp is fed solely sustainable and traceable ingredients not associated with illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and water used during the operations is also recycled at CP Foods’ farms, according to Thammasart.

CP Foods has created its own principles to help increase the survival rate of its shrimp, and the company’s standards for its shrimp-farming process have enabled CP Foods to select healthy and clean baby shrimp for the farm, resulting in zero residues in its products, Thammasart said.

CP Foods’ net profit rose in the first six months of this year, mainly due to a pork shortage in Asia and improvement in its aquaculture business in Thailand.

Given CP Foods’ efforts in tackling diseases on shrimp, the company is expected to produce more shrimp this year compared to 2019. Thailand is expected to keep its shrimp production almost unchanged at 280,000 metric tons (MT) this year, while the global output of shrimp is estimated at 3 million MT, Thammasart said.
