Correction: The subject line of a SeafoodSource e-newsletter sent on Monday, 8 November incorrectly linked the Winn-Dixie recall of its Fisherman’s Wharf brand Jumbo Cooked Shrimp to a previous recall of shrimp produced by Avanti Frozen Foods. The two recalls are not related.
Southeastern Grocers (SEG), the parent company of Winn-Dixie, Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarkets, and Winn-Dixie stores, is recalling its Fisherman’s Wharf brand Jumbo Cooked Shrimp over concerns it may be contaminated with listeria.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration found potential contamination after routine testing revealed the presence of listeria in 16-20 count, 16-ounce bags of Fisherman’s Wharf brand frozen Jumbo Cooked Shrimp, Jacksonville, Florida, U.S.A.-based SEG said in a press release.
"Sale of the product has been suspended while FDA and the company continue to investigate the source of the problem,” SEG said.
The Fisherman’s Wharf shrimp was sold in all 523 stores operated by SEG. “Should a customer still have this product, it should be thrown away or returned to any store for a full refund,” SEG said.
