More cod, less haddock for Icelandic fleet

Iceland’s cod quota has been increased by 3 percent to 272,411 metric tons (MT) for the next season, the country’s Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture has confirmed. The rise is in line with scientific advice from the Marine Research Institute (MRI).

While the fleet has the opportunity to land more cod, the haddock total allowable catch (TAC) has been lowered by 28 percent to 40,723 MT.

The new catch limits are also aligned with the most recent recommendations from the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES).

The main markets for Icelandic cod are the United Kingdom, France, and Spain.
