The United States imported a total of 148.9 million pounds, or 67,557 metric tons (MT), of shrimp in July 2022. India, Ecuador, and Indonesia ranked as the top three exporters of shrimp to the U.S. in the month, as has been the case throughout each month of 2022 thus far.
The cumulative total of U.S. shrimp imports decreased in the month from July 2021, when the U.S. imported a total of 167.7 million pounds (76,080 MT).
India sent 52 million pounds (23,617 MT) of shrimp to the U.S. in July, which was lower than its July 2021 total of 66 million pounds (30,025 MT). Ecuador exported 43.7 million pounds (19,832 MT), up from its July 2021 total of 39 million pounds (17,754 MT). Indonesia shipped 21.8 million pounds (9,910 MT), down from the 25.2 million pounds (11,441 MT) it sent to the U.S. in July 2021.
Together, those three countries sent 117 million pounds (53,359 MT) to the U.S. in July, which was slightly lower than their July 2021 total of 130.5 million pounds (59,220 MT).
Vietnam also sent less product in July 2022 than last July's total – 16 million pounds (7,292 MT) versus 20 million pounds (9,110 MT). And Thailand's numbers were also do, reaching 6 million pounds (2,744 MT), versus 7.3 million pounds (3,343 MT) in July 2021.
Rounding out the top 10 suppliers to the U.S. were Mexico, sending 2.7 million pounds (1,248 MT), Argentina at 2.2 million pounds (992 MT), China with 1.1 million pounds (499 MT), Peru at 897,000 (407 MT), and Canada at 500,000 pounds (227 MT).
Mexico's total jump significantly from July 2021, when it sent 1 million pounds (456 MT).
