Trident wins majority of USD 10 million pollock contract

Seattle, Washington, US.A.- based Trident Seafoods snared the vast majority of a contract worth nearly USD 10 million (EUR 9.4 million) to supply Alaska pollock to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It also won a separate contract for a USDA supply contract for pink salmon and salmon fillets.

The USDA awarded USD 9.96 milion (EUR 9.4 million) – 3.2 milion pounds worth – of pollock contracts for its child nutrition and other related domestic food assistance programs for fiscal-year 2022.

Trident earned the majority of the contract at USD 9.69 milion (EUR 9.1 million), while Seattle-based American Seafoods will supply USD 274,000 (EUR 259,000) worth of bulk Alaska pollock.

The average delivered price of USD 3.65 (EUR 3.45) per pound for Alaska pollock fish sticks is the highest delivered price ever for the product, Genuine Association of Alaska Pollock Producers CEO Craig Morris told SeafoodSource.

The purchase is also the third-highest ever in value for Alaska pollock purchases by the USDA, according to Morris. USDA’s fiscal year 2022 purchases have reached 9.976 million pounds at a value of more than USD 31.5 million (EUR 29.8 million).

Trident also nabbed the majority of a USD 7.2 million (EUR 6.8 million) contract to supply canned pink salmon and salmon fillets to the USDA. Seattle-based OBI Seafoods earned around USD 642,000 (EUR 608,000) of the total USD 7.86 million (EUR 7.4 million) contract award.

Separately, the USDA also awarded a contract to supply USD 892,800 (EUR 843,000) worth of walleye to Redby, Minnesota, U.S.A.-based Red Lake Nations Fisheries.
