US government plans second wild salmon buy

The United States Department of Agriculture is once again seeking bids on 324,000 pounds of frozen wild-caught salmon fillets.

The bids are being sought for the National School Lunch Program and Nutrition Assistance Programs, according to the bid invitation on the USDA website. Bids are due by 12 August, for quantities of salmon delivered between 1 October, 2019, and 15 March, 2020.

The bid request is seeking 108,000 pounds of frozen wild salmon fillets for Nampa, Idaho and 216,000 pounds of frozen wild salmon fillets for Kansas City, Missouri.

This is the second time that the USDA has sought wild salmon for the two locations. Earlier this year, Trident Seafoods was awarded a contract for the same 324,000 pounds of frozen salmon – split similarly between Nampa and Kansas City – for nearly USD 3 million (EUR 2.7 million).
