Alabama fishery featured on Travel Channel

The Alabama Gulf Coast got a brush with fame this week, as the Travel Channel aired an episode of its program “Bizarre Foods America” filmed there.

The show, which aired on 22 July, featured host Andrew Zimmern visiting the Vietnamese fishing community of Bayou La Batre.

Zimmern’s segment, titled “Andrew’s Top 5 for Third Coast,” featured a visit with a local Vietnamese family for an Alabama Gulf Seafood lunch.

“The Asian community has become such a vital and unique part of the Gulf Coast fishing community,” said David (Tùng) Ha Pham, program coordinator of BPSOS-Bayou La Batre. Pham also served as a translator between the Vietnamese family and Zimmern during the visit. “The mixture of cultures in the community has really created something special, and I was ecstatic to be able to share the passion we have for Alabama Gulf Seafood with Andrew.”

The network plans to feature other parts of Alabama in future Bizarre Foods episodes, including visits to Hot and Hot Fish Club and Jim N Nicks BBQ, which will air on 29 July.
