Business brisk for Flatfish, Norfresh at IFE

Billed as the United Kingdom’s largest food and drink trade show, the International Food & Drink Event (IFE) took place in London last week. For the seafood companies that took the opportunity to exhibit, including Grimsby-based Flatfish and Norway’s Norfresh, business was brisk.

At the biannual event, Flatfish announced its new catch supply program. The company specializes in the processing and distribution of lemon sole and plaice to major food retailers. Steve Stansfield, managing director of Flatfish, explained that he had spent several years putting in place a robust sustainable seafood procurement policy and seeking additional quality supplies.

“We have taken advice from the Marine Conservation Society on how to enhance our existing supply base for plaice and this season will be adding Danish seine-caught fish from the North Sea,” said Stansfield. “This agreement secures an important, valuable and sustainable supply, and enables us to keep customers supplied with fish at their seasonal best.”

Norfresh of Norway, which recently expanded its business into the UK, launched a range of frozen fish cakes and burgers.

“These are made only with Marine Stewardship Council-certified seafood, including salmon, herring and mackerel, and come in both kid and adult portion sizes,” said Norfresh’s Harald Andersen. “We tested these products to great acclaim at a major consumer show and are now looking to get them into retail and foodservice companies. We have also had interest at this show from European buyers, which we hope to turn into hard sales.”
