Cargill finishes acquisition, keeps former CEO

U.S.-based animal nutrition company Cargill has announced it has completed its acquisition of Norwegian salmon feed company EWOS for EUR 1.35 billion (USD billion), and EWOS CEO Einar Wathne will remain with the company.

Cargill announced in August it was planning the acquisition, in order to make Cargill “a leading player” in salmon feed, according to a Cargill announcement.

"The combination of Cargill and EWOS is a fantastic, long-term growth story," said Joe Stone, Cargill corporate VP. "We are creating the global leader in aquaculture nutrition, enabling world-class R&D, delivering innovative products and solutions and creating opportunities for the industry, our customers and our employees through shared values that will propel our growth."

Wathne, according to Cargill, will remain with the company, based in EWOS’ home city of Bergen, Norway, “in his leadership role.”

"Under Cargill ownership, we will continue to have a significant presence in Norway, Chile and our other countries across the world,” Wathne said. “Norway and Chile are the globally leading salmon markets where we have built sophisticated competence and state of the art research centers."

As part of the acquisition, Cargill will be taking on 1,000 new employees throughout its seven feed manufacturing facilities.
