Clearwater, Thermalfrost partner

Clearwater Seafoods on Thursday announced it has partnered with energy company Thermalfrost to commercialize energy recovery technology.

The technology uses waste heat harnessed from vessel engines to provide onboard freezing capacity while processing at sea.

Clearwater will begin the first phase of the project this fall with the installation of equipment aboard one of its offshore scallop-harvesting platforms. It will also use its engineering expertise to develop various prototypes of the technology.

“We know the importance of addressing issues like climate change and are pleased to have the opportunity to partner in innovative ways to increase our fuel efficiency,” said Mike Pittman, Clearwater VP of fleet management. “This is an exciting project that is expected to be a great win-win solution that benefits both industry and environment.”
