Consolidated Catfish, Caleta Bay partner

Consolidated Catfish Producers yesterday announced a partnership with Chilean salmon producer Salmones Caleta Bay. Under the agreement, Isola, Miss.-based Consolidated will market Caleta Bay steelhead trout products in the U.S. market under the Caleta Bay brand.

"After long and detailed research, Consolidated concluded that Caleta Bay has the highest quality farmers of salmon trout, which has been traditionally marketed in Japan as sashimi grade fillets," said Jack Perkins, VP of sales and marketing for Consolidated. "Consolidated will bring that same high quality of Caleta Bay products to the U.S. market, both fresh and frozen."

Formed by the merger of Delta Pride Catfish and Country Select, Consolidated processes more than 400,000 pounds of fish daily at its Mississippi plants. It markets fresh and frozen catfish fillets to supermarket chains, restaurant distributors and others.

Caleta Bay is an independent, family-owned farming operation. The company uses brackish water sites, which prohibit the formation of sea lice, which inflict salmon.
