Controlant hires former Marel exec

Icelandic perishable food data management firm Controlant, which caters in part to the seafood industry, has hired a former Marel executive as its new chief operating officer.

The company has hired Jon Birgir Gunnarsson, who recently stepped down from a position of managing director of industry center fish at processing equipment manufacturer Marel.

“It is with great pleasure that we get Gunnarsson to join us,” said Gisli Herjolfsson, Controlant CEO. “His experience will contribute greatly to the task at hand of expanding in an international marke so he is a good addition to a great team.”

Gunnarsson worked for Marel for the past 18 years, holding various positions in the company before becoming managing director. Gunnarsson said the new position is an “interesting opportunity.”

“Controlant has exciting times ahead and I am looking forward to further build on the success that the team has already done,” Gunnarsson said.
