The growing list of aquaculture facilities worldwide certified to the Global Aquaculture Alliance's Best Aquaculture Practices sustainability standards now exceeds 200 and includes facilities that raise and process tilapia and channel catfish.
Earlier this month, Elite Seafood's operation in China's Guangxi province became the first tilapia farm to complete BAP certification and the 200th facility overall. Harvest Select Catfish, which operates several catfish farms in Alabama, Mississippi and Arkansas, became the first catfish producer to attain BAP certification.
St. Louis-based GAA developed the Best Aquaculture Practices standards, which are implemented through site inspections directed by the Aquaculture Certification Council of Kirkland, Wash.
