Guangdong Fisheries Group expands fishing in Myanmar with two new vessels

One of China’s biggest fishing companies has just launched two new vessels and has already dispatched them to the waters off Myanmar.

Guangdong Fisheries Group – also known as Guanyuan Fishery Group Co. – sent ‘Yue Yuan 818’ and ‘Yue Yuan 819’ trawlers to its operations in the Southeast Asian nation after a launch ceremony in Zhanjiang, a port city and processing hub in Guangdong province on China’s southern coast.

One of the big state-owned fisheries companies – like the Shanghai Fisheries Group and Liaoning (Liaoyu) Fisheries Group – Guanyuan has vessels operating around the world, with a sizeable presence in Malaysia and the Philippines and across the Pacific islands as well as in Oman.

The firm has also been building a giant new logistics center in Guangzhou city and has made much of its efforts to increase imports of seafood such as salmon and lobsters for domestic consumption.
