New Bedford processors eye expansion

A pair of seafood processors will be before the planning board with waterfront proposals next week.

Quality Custom Packing Inc., a seafood processor that deals primarily with scallops and does custom packing for large companies such as Atlantic Capes Fisheries, Premier Foods and Orca Bay Seafoods, wants to build a 22,000-square-foot addition to an existing building at 18 Wright St.

Currently, Quality Custom Packing Inc. leases a building at a different waterfront site, and the company wishes to consolidate its operation to the Wright Street site.

“It will be much better to have everything under one roof,” said Dennis Saluti, who co-owns the company with Michael St. Ours.

The existing building has 9,600 square feet and was built in 1984. The company, according to files at the city’s Planning Department, wants to expand to make the “flow of productivity more efficient.”
