Nutreco on Wednesday announced that it is investing EUR 27 million (USD 39.6 million) to upgrade its fish feed plant in Norway.
The investment consists of an upgrade of the grinding facility, a new intake line and expansion of both storage capacity and operation premises. The upgrades will enable Skretting, the company’s fish feed business, to meet future demand for high-quality salmon feed and to maintain its leading position in Norway. Production capacity of the facility will be increased to 20,000 metric tons, and Skretting plans to invest more in the future.
“This investment clearly demonstrates our commitment to support the growth of aquaculture in Norway,” said Knut Nesse, Nutreco’s aquaculture COO. “Growth is expected to continue at a high rate in the coming years, especially in salmon feed. This upgraded plant allows us to realize the benefits of the introduction of our MicroBalance technology, which enables us to replace the limited raw materials fish meal with vegetable alternatives.”
