Ocean Quality North America, a subsidiary of Norway-based Ocean Quality AS, will open operations on Monday, 9 February, in Burnaby, B.C., Canada.

Ocean Quality North America assumes exclusive responsibility for sale and transport of Grieg Seafood BC’s entire production of farmed salmon to its North American and global customers as well as that of Bremnes Seashore.

“We look forward to bringing to North America our passion for servicing customers with high quality salmon. There is little doubt that combining successful practices from our global markets with the entrepreneurial spirit of North America will bring new benefits to both our producer partners and the customer,” said Arne Aarhus, CEO of Parent Company Ocean Quality AS.

Ocean Quality North America aims to meet the needs of the North America market and to provide its entire portfolio of salmon including Canadian, Norwegian, Scottish, coho and organic fish and fillets.

“We are honored at Ocean Quality North America, that our producer partners are trusting us with the responsibility of representing them in the marketplace,” said Dave Mergle, managing director for Ocean Quality North America. “As Grieg is known to have some of the highest quality fish available from British Columbia and from its farms in Europe, we naturally feel accountable to deliver with excellence.”

“Grieg Seafood BC is thrilled with the transition to our new service provider,” said Stewart Hawthorn, managing director for Grieg Seafood BC. “All of our people are passionate not only about raising great quality salmon sustainably but also to our commitment to creating jobs and economic development in our farming communities. It is exciting to know that Ocean Quality will not only create value for our customers but also to the communities in which we operate.”

Grieg Seafood BC produces approximately 14,000 metric tons (MT) of salmon annually, employs more than 100 people and has annual sales of approximately CDN 110 million (USD 87.4 million; EUR 76.5 million). Grieg Seafood BC is also the owner of Skuna Bay Salmon.

Bremnes Seashore operates 21 production sites and three hatcheries for salmon farming in Norway. The units are located in nine municipalities in the regions Hardanger, Sunnhordland and Rogaland, southwest in Norway. The company has an annual production capacity of 23,000 MT gutted weight.
