PEI Lobstermen to Give Away Lobsters in Protest

Prince Edward Island lobstermen will give away free lobsters next Wednesday at a shopping mall in Charlottetown to protest low ex-vessel prices.

"We may as well give them away, for all we are making from the processors now," lobsterman Joe Banks told the Associated Press.

The Price Protest Lobster Giveaway is being organized by members of the Eastern Kings Fishermen's Association who are fed up with what they describe as price manipulation that takes place in the industry every year.

With high diesel fuel and bait costs, some fishermen are laying off hired help and only fishing a few days a week to save money.
