Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.-based vertically integrated seafood-harvesting and -processing company Trident Seafoods announced its plan to sell off several processing plants in Alaska in a move that would reverberate throughout the year. Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute Food Aid Program and Development Director Bruce Schactler told KRBD that Trident’s announcement heralded a crisis “years in the making.”
Trident has gone on to sell several of its seafood processing plants in Alaska, including its Petersburg, Alaska plant, which it sold to E.C. Phillips & Son; its Ketchikan, Alaska plant, which it sold to Silver Bay Seafoods; its False Pass processing plant, which it also sold to Silver Bay; and its Kodiak plant, which it sold to Pacific Seafoods.
