Trident to buy Western seafood processing plant

American seafood company Trident Seafoods Corp. announced on Monday that it was planning to buy the assets of Western Alaska Fisheries in Kodiak, Alaska.

The company has signed a letter of intent to purchase the assets from Western Seafoods for an undisclosed amount. Trident said in a statement that it expected the transaction to be final by 31 December.

Western’s Kodiak processing plant is about one mile from Trident’s existing plant. Both plants process pollock, cod, salmon and other species.

“We’re excited to be able to expand our presence in Kodiak,” said Trident CEO Joe Bundrant. “I was born in Kodiak and have a vested interest in Trident’s ongoing commitment to Alaska’s sustainable fisheries and the community of Kodiak.”
