UK distributor sets up seafood division

UK-based beef and poultry distributor Towers Thompson announced on Friday that it has established a new seafood division in Grimsby consisting of former British Seafood Group staff.

The new company, Towers Thompson Seafood Ltd., complements Towers Thompson's German seafood division, Rassau Seafood GmbH, based in Hamburg.

Towers Thompson Seafood will be led by Nick Wilson, managing director, and Jason Letch, sales director, with support from former Bloomsbury International Ltd. staff. Bloomsbury International was one of the British Seafood Group subsidiaries that went in administration in February.

Another subsidiary, Five Star Fish Ltd., was acquired by British poultry tycoon Ranjit Boparan earlier this week.

Towers Thompson Seafood will focus on importing and distributing cod, haddock, plaice, pangasius, yellowfin sole, squid, salmon and prawns.

The company will work closely with new and existing suppliers and customers as well as collaborate with Rassau to maximize its buying power and ensure that it has continued access to a wide range of products, Towers Thompson said in a statement. The company has already established an exclusive agreement for single-frozen IQF fish fillets and portions from Murmansk.
