Amazon meal kits, which were previously available online-only, are now being sold at certain Whole Foods Market and Amazon Go stores.
The meal kits, which include a Seared Salmon with Fennel and Pea Risotto option, are available at select Whole Foods stores in San Francisco, California; Southern California; Nevada; and Arizona, Grocery Dive reported.
The kits are also sold at Amazon Go stores and can be purchased by AmazonFresh and Prime Now customers in Seattle, Washington; Chicago, Illinois; the San Francisco Bay area; Southern California; and the Northeast United States, according to Grocery Dive.
Other meal kits, priced between USD 15.99 (EUR 14.11) and USD 19.99 (EUR 17.65) each, include Chicken-Fried Chicken with Farmhouse Potato Salad and Red Cabbage Slaw as well as Vegetarian Fajita Bowls with Corn, Pico de Gallo and Queso Fresco.
Selling Amazon Meal Kits in grocery stores is not a new concept. Soon after the massive online retailer acquired Whole Foods, it applied for a trademark on its meal kits.
“The ability for consumers to get meals, meal kits, or portions for seafood delivered without wasting time shopping or waiting for a portion to be cut/customized within [Whole Foods] stores will contribute to higher sales,” Steven Johnson, grocerant guru at consulting firm Foodservice Solutions, told SeafoodSource at the time. “So, selling sustainable salmon would be a perfect example of what they can and should be doing.”
