One of China’s largest aquaculture-focused pharma firms has broken ground on a new CNY 200 million (USD 29.2 million, EUR 25.1 million) facility in the center of the country.
A subsidiary of the Beijing-based Yumeikang Group is building a 65,000-square-meter seafood processing facility as well as a manufacturing facility for feed mixes, medicines and R&D facilities in what it says will be the largest facility of its kind in China.
The facility in Yueyang, Hunan Province will feature liquid nitrogen freezing of seafood snacks, including steamed buns, according to a company statement on the launch. Yumeikang has invested significantly in large-scale aquaculture facilities in recent years, aiming to drive earnings from increasing demand for premium crustaceans like crabs, crayfish, and shrimp.
Yumeikang went to Cambodia last year to showcase its products, including a “Water Gold” additive for aquaculture farmers. The power-based additive helps “improve aquatic animals’ physique, body color and meat quality,” according to a Yumeikang advertisement for an expo in the Cambodian capital, where the firm was part of a large delegation of Chinese firms seeking local partnerships and sales.
