Trident plans to expand distribution of its pollock-based Protein Noodles and is launching two new frozen pollock products ahead of the 2019 Seafood Expo North America, running 17 through 19 March in Boston, Massachusetts.
Fresh off its grand prize win for its Protein Noodles at this year’s Alaska Symphony of Seafood competition, the Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.-based supplier will utilize funds from The Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP) to expand distribution of the novel refrigerated noodles.
The noodles are already sold in select club stores, and Trident is introducing programs at SENA to expand Protein Noodles into foodservice outlets, chain restaurants, and supermarket delis, John Salle, senior vice president of marketing and innovation at Trident, told SeafoodSource.
Trident is also rolling out two new frozen pollock products for retail: Wild-Caught Alaskan Pollock Fish Fillets and Alaska Pollock Skillet Cuts.
“This is a great way to ‘swap meat’ out and add fish into your favorite recipes,” Salle said. The 16-ounce Skillet Cuts packages feature pre-cut pollock in ready-to-use portions. The small pieces can be used in a variety of dishes, including fish tacos, stir fries, pastas, soups, and salads, he added.
Meanwhile, the individually quick-frozen portions of pollock “work great on the grill or in the oven,” Salle said.
Salle said that Trident’s Protein Noodles have proven popular because consumers are increasingly looking for alternative sources of healthy protein.
“Consumers today are interested now more than ever in alternative ways to incorporate clean protein into their diets,” he said. “As we like to say, ‘It is a new way to get hooked on protein.’”
The gluten-free noodles contain 10 grams of protein, seven grams of carbs, and 70 mg of Omega 3s per serving.
Plus, the taste of the noodles is neutral - there is no fishy taste, and they are convenient and versatile, according to Salle.
“It is fully-cooked and ready to eat, hot or cold," he said.
