Indonesia: March 2019 shrimp sourcing update

Indonesia’s shrimp industry is experiencing an upward trend. While the rate of production has stagnated for several years, ShrimpTails sources throughout the country now report that it is finally on the rise. Driven by the expansion of land under culture on one hand, and technification of farming practices in major shrimp farming areas on the other, we may see Indonesian shrimp production reach 400,000 tonnes in 2019, or at least by 2020.

This prediction is also supported by the export figures, which show considerable year-on-year growth. With presidential elections in Indonesia at hand, the industry hopes that the new president will commit to reaching Indonesia’s ambitious aquaculture production and seafood export targets.
