Ecuadorian shrimp exporter becomes seafood’s first AEO

The National Customs Service of Ecuador has granted seafood company Omarsa with the qualification of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), an industry first.

Omarsa has become the first company in the seafood sector to earn the distinction, which signifies that high quality internal processes have been put in place to prevent goods in international transport from being tampered with. In effect, the AEO qualification helps ensure the security of a company’s supply chain.

In response to the rapid growth of international trade and the heightened possibility for security breaches that emerged with that growth, the Council of the World Customs Organization adopted the Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade (SAFE Framework) in June 2005; at the core of the SAFE Framework, is the Authorized Economic Operator program.

Some of the benefits that Omarsa will reap with the AEO distinction include:

  • The assignation of an officer of the National Customs Service of Ecuador to provide personalized and continuous support to Omarsa in its operations or custom queries.
  • Recognition as a safe and reliable operator by the National Customs Service of Ecuador.
  • Ease and priority in all customs procedures.
  • Greater control and security in their supply chain.

“It is our belief that by being qualified as an Authorized Economic Operator we are building trust and developing stronger ties with our customers, customs administrations and authorities in the region and the world,” said Sandro Coglitore, CEO Omarsa.

The AEO-qualified Omarsa will be exhibiting at the upcoming Seafood Expo Global / Seafood Processing Global event, to be held in Brussels from 26 to 28 April. Find the company at Booth No. 6-959.
