Chinese shipbuilding firm Jianglong Shipbuilding has assembled and delivered its first workboat to Norwegian aquaculture vessel supplier Moen Marin.
The vessel – a 21-meter catamaran-style boat dubbed the Nabcat 2112 Hybrid – is one of two vessels Moen, which describes itself as the world’s largest supplier of working boats to the aquaculture industry, contracted Zhongshan, China-based Jianglong to build.
“The vessel incorporates specialized cold-resistant systems to ensure reliable performance in Norwegian and similar high-latitude frigid waters,” a Zhongshan government release about the transaction said. “Its robust design enables sustained fishing and aquaculture activities in challenging maritime conditions.”
In the same release, Xi Fangyuan, board secretary of Jianglong, said the Moen Marin contract was his company’s “breakthrough” into the Northern European market.
“Our company's previous exports primarily consisted of official-use vessels to Belt and Road,” Xi said, referencing the over 140 nations that have signed onto China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
In addition to the two-vessel deal, Moen Marin has also now contracted Jianglong for 12 more vessels that will focus on aiding companies in performing fish farm maintenance tasks.
Established in 2003, Jianglong has supplied vessels to Chinese security services and the Chinese Coast Guard, as well as to wind energy companies working offshore. It has also built crafts for China’s tourism industry. The company has clients in over 30 countries across Asia, the Middle East, and West Africa.
Besides aquaculture vessels, Moen Marin also provides cage-washing machines and electric power solutions to aquaculture industry clients.
“Moen Marin’s ePower solutions contribute to the electrification of aquaculture, prioritizing safety and stability in their design,” the company said regarding the latter offering. “These battery solutions offer adaptability to various locations and enhance flexibility in utilizing existing electrical infrastructure for boats, fleets, land bases, and equipment.
