The EU is working to assist Myanmar’s aquaculture production by offering a series of training programs and activities.
China’s Xinhua News Agency is reporting the EU is offering the courses as part of a trade development program with Myanmar. The long-term goal is to help Myanmar’s fishery sector become more sustainable, and to improve seafood trade between Myanmar and the EU.
"The training has started to raise the awareness for these important points to boost production and trade," EU Ambassador Roland Kobia told Xinhua.
The EU will provide equipment and staff training for testing according to international standards for food safety.
The EU has also upgraded some cold storage systems in Myanmar. The companies using these facilities are now exporting seafood products to the EU.
