Japanese seafood company Nissui is rebranding its salmon subsidiary Yumigahama Suisan to Nissui Salmon Co. effective 1 April 2026.

In a release, Nissui said the name change is aimed at strengthening its brand and expanding its domestic salmon-farming business.

“By adopting a company name that includes the Nissui brand, the role of the group's salmon-farming business will be clarified, and the company will further promote the establishment of a sustainable salmon supply system in Japan,” Nissui said.

The company said part of the reasoning for its decision is rooted in the “Good Foods 2030” plan that it released in 2022. That plan is broken into three stages, the first of which it completed in 2025. The company is currently in “Good Foods Recipe 2,” the second stage of its plan, which launched in April 2025 and is oriented around supply chain resilience.

As part of the new plan, Nissui has committed to increasing its sales by 50 percent by 2030, and aquaculture is among its growth areas, it said.

“Among these, salmon, which is experiencing expanding global demand, is a core area of the aquaculture business, and the company is working to strengthen its business foundation,” Nissui said in a release.

Yumigahama Salmon was Nissui’s first salmon-farming business, located in Sakaiminato, Tottori Prefecture. Since the founding, it has expanded beyond the single operation to operations in Sado, Niigata Prefecture; Otsuchi, Kamihei District, Iwate Prefecture; and Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture.

“Amid this expansion of domestic aquaculture bases, Yumigahama Suisan (new company name: Nissui Salmon) is working to accumulate aquaculture technology and build a stable production system as the core company responsible for the group's domestic salmon-farming business,” Nissui said.

The company said it is planning to achieve 10,000 metric tons (MT) of domestic salmon production by 2030, and the new branding as “Nissui Salmon” will help create a clearer position for its domestic salmon farming.

“The Nissui Group will continue to expand its domestic salmon farming business in cooperation with local communities, contributing to the sustainable development of the fisheries industry and the stable supply of food,” Nissui said.
