7.) Fish-in-fish-out ratio – This is an industry term for measuring the amount of feeder fish processed into fishmeal in order to produce a farmed salmon, in round weight terms. Environmentalists argue that small pelagic stocks such as mackerel are being depleted worldwide because too many farmers use them to make fish feed. Also, studies have linked fishmeal to higher concentrations of dangerous contaminants such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).
