John Daly has joined OBI Seafoods, the entity formed by the merger of the Alaska operations of Ocean Beauty Seafoods and Icicle Seafoods, as the company’s manager of domestic canned sales.
Daly, the former director of sales and marketing at Peter Pan Seafoods, will manage OBI Seafoods’ domestic canned salmon program, from pre-season and demand planning to sales, promotions, and customer relationships, the firm said in a 28 January press release.
OBI Seafoods is now Alaska’s largest producer of canned salmon, which puts Daly in a pivotal position for the business, according to OBI Seafoods CEO Mark Palmer.
“We are excited to add John to our experienced leadership team,” Palmer said.
Daly's history with Peter Pan Seafoods will be a boon for OBI's canned sales, he added.
“Canned sales are a big part of our business and we couldn’t have picked anyone better to lead our domestic program,” Palmer said. “His expertise will be highly valued in bringing together the Ocean Beauty and Icicle canned salmon product lines to create the best canned salmon offerings and developing marketing programs to increase sales and value for our customers.”
Daly spent the past 11 years at Peter Pan. He got his start in the canned salmon segment on Peter Pan’s quality control team at its King Cove plant before moving into export and domestic sales. From there, Daly moved onto the management track, overseeing all aspects of the company’s canned business as its category manager.

Daly’s official start-date is set for 1 February, 2021, OBI Seafoods confirmed.
