Former Santa Monica Seafood exec joins Lotus Seafood

Former Santa Monica Seafood executive Jay Gallagher has joined Lotus Seafood as its new head of business development, the San Diego, California, U.S.A.-based company announced on 13 July.

Lotus Seafood CEO Nick Ovchinnkov said Gallagher, who has worked in the seafood industry for over 40 years, will help the vertically-integrated company expand into new realms.

“It is a big day and new era in our continuous growth and Jay is an amazing asset for Lotus to obtain, with his tremendous 40 years successful experience and highest expertise in both the industry and ethical standards,” Ovchinnkov said. “He will bring Lotus to a new level of business through his ability, with his operational expertise, to build a strong operation fully committed to sustainability to support the largest retail and foodservice accounts nationwide.”   

Gallagher recently served as director of sales for the U.S. Southwest region for St. Petersburg, Florida-based seafood company Newport International. Before that, he worked as Santa Monica Seafood’s regional vice president of sales. His career also includes stints serving as the West Coast regional sales manager for Pacific Cove Crabmeat, as a senior buyer for Sysco Newport Meat, and as a seafood buyer for R.W. Zant Co.

A global supplier specializing in frozen seafood and sushi, Lotus Seafood runs international operations in a wide range of frozen fish, seafood, and fresh products. The company provides seafood from more than 20 countries of origin, and distributes its products to over 50 destinations worldwide.
