Elkridge, Maryland, U.S.A.-based JJ McDonnell & Company has announced the hiring of Brett Black as its new president.
Black will take over the role from George McManus, who has served as the company’s president since 1986, when he acquired JJ McDonnell. McManus will move into a newly created position of chief executive officer and visionary.
“This move will enable him to focus his attention on building stronger relationships with current and new vendors, customers, and employees,” the company said.
Black joins JJ McDonnell with three decades of experience in the food industry, including a term as president and CEO of Devault Foods and as vice president of frozen food operations for Giorgio Foods. He will report to McManus as he “integrates all significant functions of business and operations, and manages the day-to-day activities.”
“The last few years have been a challenge for the community and many of our customers. So it presents an exciting time for us to find innovative products and ways to deliver service better,” Black said. “I’m extremely excited to be able to work with George and be part of the JJ McDonnell family. I look forward to working with our team to serve our customers and achieve positive growth.”
McManus and Black will collaborate with the company’s other key executives, driving focus on providing service, continuing responsible practices, and expanding educational content to the foodservice and retail sectors.

JJ McDonnell, which expanded into a 60,000-square-foot facility in 2016, provides a mix of fresh and frozen seafood to a range of foodservice and retail customers.
