Kira Smiley, formerly the global director of sales and marketing at aquaculture tech firm Tidal, has announced that she is leaving the company. Smiley, who spent several years with Tidal and its associated Google companies, was instrumental in the evolution of Tidal as it grew from a spin out of X, the Moonshot Factory, to its own standalone company in August 2024.

She announced via LinkedIn that she is pursuing a degree at Harvard Business School, and reflected on her time at the company which has invested heavily in “ocean sensing technologies, collaborating with global partners and customers, and navigating the challenges of scaling technology for a complex and evolving ecosystem.”

Before taking the sales and marketing position, Smiley served as a business development lead at X, The Moonshot Factory, a research and development company founded by Google and owned by Google parent company Alphabet.

Most recently Tidal made news when it launched its newest generation of underwater camera, called Orca.

– Pacific Seafood Group has appointed Raúl Squadritto to a leadership position at PacMar, its farmed salmon group.

Based out of the company’s new Miami, Florida, U.S.A. facility, Squadritto will lead sales for PacMar. Pacific recently embarked on “Mission 31,” an ambition program to double its business size by 2031.

Pacific is likely looking to tap into Squadritto’s twenty-five years of experience in the salmon business, most recently at Empresas AquaChile, where, according to his LinkedIn, he increased sales from USD 250 million (EUR 215 million) to USD 550 million (EUR 472), or 180 percent, in three years

PacMar Division Vice President Mark Bowen said that he was excited to welcome Squadritto as the new leader of farmed salmon sales.

According to Bowen, Squadritto will “play a critical role in strengthening customer partnerships and accelerating growth.”

– Animal health research group Moredun has appointed Anita Jaglarz as head of aquaculture research.

Jaglarz spent eleven years at Moredun at the start of her career and is now returning to the company after six years working in vaccine development and research with MSD Animal Health Innovation.

In a LinkedIn post about the news, Jaglarz said that she is “looking forward to contributing to fish health through aquatic vaccine development and collaborative research.”
