Bumble Bee unveils traceability tool for consumers

Bumble Bee Seafoods has announced a new online tool to allow customers to trace where their tuna products come from.

The new tool, which Bumble Bee calls Trace My Catch, allows consumers to enter a code found on the can or pouch. Then, the website tells the consumer gets information such as species, fishing method, what ocean it was caught in, the name and flag of the vessel that caught it, where it was processed and other data.

“Transparency is increasingly important to consumers who want to know where their food comes from and Bumble Bee is committed to meeting these expectations,” said Chris Lischewski, Bumble Bee president and CEO. “We have always had the ability to trace our products to their source and this site brings that information direct to consumers.”

The company plans to add more capabilities to the site “over the next few years” to allow tracking and tracing of salmon, sardine and other seafood items.
