UK-based seafood supplier Simsons Fisheries has gained Marine Stewardship Council chain of custody certification allowing it to supply certified sustainable seafood to numerous major foodservice clients in the UK.
The distributor can now supply sustainable Icelandic cod and haddock, South African hake, Canadian lobster and prawns, New Zealand hoki and Alaska pollock to hotel groups, restaurants, pub groups, retailers, schools and hospitals.
“We have always endeavored to provide sustainable fish where possible and can now strengthen this by being able to provide MSC certified sustainable fish,” said Philippa Raven, Simson’s sustainability advisor. “We chose to get Marine Stewardship Council certification as — following the London 2012 Olympics — we wanted to offer certified sustainable fish to a wide range of our customers.”
In addition, fast food chain KFC has also obtained MSC certification for its locations in France. The fish KFC offers at its 143 restaurants in France in its Twister Fish and Fish Tenders, which is 100 percent pollock, is now from sustainable fishing.
With the certification, KFC France takes another step toward its goal of becoming a responsible company.
