Japanese seafood firm secures eco-label for its tuna fish oil

Nissui has obtained the Friend of the Sea certification for its fish oil products originating from tuna trimmings.

The Tokyo-based company obtains raw materials for further processing from Friend of the Sea-approved fisheries, which operate in areas where fish stocks are not overfished or overexploited.

From the procurement of raw materials to further processing and distribution of its products, Nissui has implemented a comprehensive environmental strategy, and in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, waste and water usage it has introduced several recycling and energy saving measures.

“We share the same sustainability values with Friend of the Sea,” said Hirokazu Ishii, manager of Nissui.

“Nissui maximizes [the] values of marine resources through [its] global supply chain, contributing to the sustainable utilization of marine resources and creating diverse values.”
