In a survey about dietary supplement consumption habits commissioned by UK-based Croda Health Care, nearly half of the Americans polled said they and their families are missing out on essential nutrients in their diets; 63 percent believe they are missing omega-3s, and 70 percent do not purchase omega-3 fish oil supplements.
Only 26 percent of consumers and their families take a fish oil supplement, according to the survey.
Cost, lack of perceived need and confusion are preventing consumers from taking supplements, according to the survey. Of those who take fish oil supplements, 94 percent said they look for assurances of purity as the most important factor when purchasing supplements.
The survey was conducted by Equation Research on behalf of Croda, which manufactures PureMax fish oil products.
