Applebee’s rolls out Weight Watchers shrimp

Applebee’s on Wednesday introduced three Weight Watchers-endorsed entrées, including Grilled Jalapeno-Lime Shrimp.

The two organizations recently extended their partnership, initially launched in 2004. Applebee’s — the world’s largest casual-dining chain with about 2,000 restaurants in 17 countries, predominately in the United States — is the only U.S. restaurant chain to feature Weight Watchers-endorsed menu items.

The new shrimp entrée is grilled chipotle lime shrimp and black bean corn salsa tossed with lime juice and chopped cilantro, served on a mix of grilled zucchini, marinated tomatoes, onions and red peppers with steamed white rice. The entrée carries the least amount of Weight Watchers points at eight.

The other two items are Creamy Parmesan Chicken and Cabernet Mushroom Sirloin. Both meals carry 12 Weight Watchers points.

The Applebee’s and Weight Watchers partnership capitalizes on the fact that nearly three-quarters of Americans say they are trying to eat healthier now than they did two years ago, according to the National Restaurant Association’s 2012 Restaurant Industry Forecast.

“Weight Watchers is excited to continue working with Applebee’s to provide these three new endorsed menu items,” said Dave Burwick, North America president for Weight Watchers International. “These flavorful and satisfying items are a great way for Weight Watchers members, or anyone seeking better for you options, to easily make healthier decisions while dining out.”
