El Segundo, California, U.S.A.-based Chicken of the Sea is taking advantage of the recent success ambient seafood is having at retail to launch new products, including a limited-time Wild-Caught Light Tuna Packet with Ghost Pepper.
U.S. ambient seafood sales climbed 4.4 percent by value in March to USD 276 million (EUR 242 million), while sales by volume soared nearly 11 percent, according to market research firm Circana.
Chicken of the Sea, owned by global food conglomerate Thai Union Group, is one supplier benefiting from those increased sales by launching products that appeal to Americans’ increasing interest in on-the-go high-protein snacks, such as the Wild-Caught Light Tuna Packet with Ghost Pepper. “
“Hot/spicy is the top-selling flavor in shelf-stable seafood, so we’re excited to launch the Ghost Pepper Packet as our hottest flavor yet. We stay close to our consumers and provide them with the flavors they enjoy to fuel their busy lifestyles,” Chicken of the Sea Director of Marketing Griffin Raasch told SeafoodSource.
To support its hottest flavor offering yet, Chicken of the Sea is daring spice fans to “put their taste buds to the test” by trying the product and and then tagging the company on social media with the #DareToTryTuna hashtag.
The new release follows flavors and products the firm launched earlier this year, including Wild-Caught Light Tuna Packet with OLD BAY Seasoning and Chicken of the Sea Wild-Caught Light Tuna Packet with McCormick Chili Lime.
"At Chicken of the Sea, we're always exploring ways to expand our seafood offerings with innovative flavors that elevate meal and snack time without compromise,” Raasch said in a press release in January.
