Appealing to Americans seeking high-protein, healthy, value-added meals, Genova Premium Tuna has launched a new Mediterranean Tuna Bowls line.

Available in Lentil and Grain and Bean Salad flavors, the shelf-stable bowls are designed as a nutritious snack or as part of a quick meal, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.-based supplier, which is owned by Tri-Union Seafoods, said in a release.

Both bowls include Marine Stewardship Council-certified tuna.

“There are a few similar products on the market, and we are incredibly proud of Genova’s take on ready-to-eat tuna bowls,” Genova Director of Marketing Griffin Raasch told SeafoodSource, adding that the bowls give customers a “new, convenient, and delicious way to enjoy their favorite Genova tuna.”

The bowls appeal to a wide range of consumers, Raasch added, including those seeking high-protein food offerings, individuals who enjoy eating Mediterranean Diet-inspired ingredients, and consumers looking for nourishing and convenient snacks.

Consumers using glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) medications might also enjoy the new bowls, with Raasch explaining that those taking GLP-1s are encouraged to eat foods such as beans, vegetables, and lean protein like fish.

Around 12 percent of Americans take GLP-1 medications, and that number is expected to grow this year, especially as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Novo Nordisk's Wegovy GLP-1 pill.

This gives seafood suppliers like Genova opportunities to grow their consumer base with new products.

“Genova Mediterranean Tuna Bowls are perfectly portioned and can support a consumer’s GLP-1 lifestyle,” she noted.

The bowls are available at Walmart’s physical and digital storefronts, as well as Amazon, for USD 3.99 (EUR 3.43) each.
