Israeli firm launches organic seaweed products

Israel-based Seakura on Wednesday launched a line of organic seaweed products especially tailored and produced for European consumers in both retail and foodservice.

Seakura’s farm specializes in producing organic green sea lettuce (Ulva lactuca) and red seaweed (Gracilaria sp.) grown in Mediterranean. The company’s products are fully traceable.

The new range comprises Seakura Premium Fresh green and red seaweeds as well as dried and powdered seaweed products. The company also launched a seaweed salad made from sea lettuce that offers a 14-day shelf life when refrigerated.

The company is touting the health benefits of the products, included nutrients and natural antioxidants that, if included regularly in diets, can improve overall health.

“Seaweed is a very fast growing category and we are delighted to be able to offer the European market these natural products,” said Seakura CEO Moshe Rivosh. “Our seaweed lines are perfectly suited to the modern, busy European lifestyle as they are presented in convenient, easy-to-use formats and bring a fresh, sea-breeze aroma, and natural salt flavor to a wide variety of dishes.”
