New Australis barramundi product to debut at Whole Foods

Australis Aquaculture will debut its frozen Garlic Teriyaki Barramundi portions at Whole Foods Market stores nationwide starting in mid-January 2019.

Australis, which is based in Greenfield, Massachusetts, U.S.A. and farms its barramundi in ocean pens in Vietnam, said its new sweet and savory pre-glazed frozen barramundi portions “are designed for health-conscious consumers who crave the great flavor and nutritional value of sustainable seafood, without the fuss."

The portions are sold in a 12-ounce bag and retail for a suggested USD 9.99 (EUR 8.72) each.

"We know our shoppers are coming to the Whole Foods Market seafood department looking for delicious products that meet our strict standards for both sustainability and quality," said Elliot Myers, senior category leader of seafood at Whole Foods Market, in the statement. ”We’re thrilled to have a product like Australis Garlic Teriyaki Barramundi that meets those standards and offers a great tasting meal solution four our customers nationwide."

One of the biggest hurdles for consumers to enjoy more fish at home is the cooking prep, according to Australis Co-founder and CEO Josh Goldman.

“We wanted to make the process as simple and effortless as possible,” Goldman said.

In addition to Whole Foods, Australis is “in talks with other retailers that we sell to and expect broader distribution in early 2019,” Julie Qiu, marketing director for Australis, told SeafoodSource.

Australis will be showcasing this new product, along with the rest of its retail line, to U.S. and international buyers at Seafood Expo North America, being held from 17 to 19 March in Boston, Massachusetts, Qiu added.

Australis also sells a pre-coated Lemon Herb Butter Barramundi, which debuted in 2013.
