Red Lobster is running another promotion to help grow its business after the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
To celebrate National Lobster Day on 25 September, the Orlando, Florida-based restaurant chain is running a special from 21 through 25 September.
During the week, guests can receive 15 percent off Red Lobster’s Lobster Lover’s Dream entrée, which includes roasted rock lobster tail, butter-poached Maine lobster tail, and lobster-and-shrimp linguini Alfredo.
Red Lobster will also add the dish to its menu year-round, the company said in a press release.
Despite the restaurant chain posting a USD 18.4 million (THB 579 million, EUR 15.6 million) loss in its fiscal fourth quarter, Thai Union has lauded Red Lobster’s changes in marketing, menu offerings, and takeout/ delivery options.
Golden Gate Capital recently agreed to sell its remaining equity stake in Red Lobster to a group comprised of Thai Union, Red Lobster management, and an investor group by the name of Seafood Alliance, the companies said in a press release.
“This transaction represents a deepening of Thai Union's commitment to Red Lobster,” the group said. Thai Union made a USD 575 million (EUR 481 million) strategic investment in Red Lobster is 2016.
Since the pandemic began, Red Lobster has reduced its workforce, slashed overhead expenses 30 percent, and has made a “massive reduction” in marketing expenses, Thai Union Chief Financial Officer Joerg Ayrle said recently.
However, more than 80 percent of Red Lobster’s dining rooms are currently open and all of its 600 locations are open for off-premise, to-go, curbside pickup, and delivery.
“And the delivery business is really doing very, very well,” Ayrle said. “And we are discussing how we can really push that even further with even more focus on this delivery consumer and delivery guest who has different needs than an on-premise dining hall guest.”
In fact, Red Lobster is reminding guests to take advantage of the Lobster Lover’s Dream special either at one of its restaurants or ordering To Go, curbside pickup where available, or free touchless delivery.
