Ace Aquatec crafting bespoke solution for Pure Salmon

Dundee, Scotland-based Ace Aquatec is developing a bespoke product for Pure Salmon, which is building a series of land-based salmon farms around the world.

The company, which has won accolades for its in-water electric stunner that humanely stuns finfish until the point of death, has been providing “expert consultations to Pure Salmon in the design of their state-of-the-art facilities planned for Japan, France, and the United States,” it said in a press release.

“Over the last few months, we’ve been working closely with Pure Salmon on their upcoming harvesting facilities in Japan, France, and U.S.A.,” Ace Aquatec Northern Europe Regional Manager Preben Imset Matre said. “We are grateful for their trust, and very pleased with the collaboration. Pure Salmon’s vision of building state-of-the-art production and harvesting facilities that puts fish welfare at the forefront is a perfect fit for our technology and products. We’re looking forward to supporting the team with a bespoke product that reaches their ultimate goals of high animal welfare and better products.”

Pure Salmon first announced its plans to open a series of recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) facilities in February 2020. The company has since said it also plans to expand its RAS development into China, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Construction on its RAS farms in Japan, France, and the U.S. is now underway, helped by Pure Salmon’s parent company, Singapore-based 8F Asset Management, having raised more than USD 350 million (EUR 300 million). The company has since said it also plans to expand its RAS development into China, Southeast Asia, and Africa.

The company also has plans to use Ace Aquatec’s electrical stunner throughout its facilities in a bid to adopt the highest animal welfare standards and develop top-quality produce.

“Conscious fish husbandry and animal welfare are at the core of Pure Salmon’s mission to accelerate the transition towards healthy and sustainable protein,” Pure Salmon Global Head of Production David Cahill said. “Ace Aquatec's innovative solutions are helping us raise the bar and achieve more humane and respectful harvesting.”

In addition to its stunner, Ace Aquatec has also developed acoustic and electric predator deterrent systems, an underwater camera for precise biomass readings, and is working to develop efficient sea lice removal systems. It operates two manufacturing facilities in the United Kingdom as well as a Canadian office.
